Keystone Milling Mountain Race and Cycle Zone Kgaswane MTB Challenge

Runners and cyclists, diarise the week-end of 2 and 3 September. The local Rustenburg Marathon Club and Rustenburg Cycling Club will host the Keystone Milling Mountain Race (running) and Kgaswane MTB Challenge (Mountain Biking) respectively. Both events will start and finish at the Rustenburg Kloof at 07:00 in the morning. Online entries are open on Manual entries for both events can be done at Cycle Zone at the Magaliesview centre.

A new challenge for endurance athletes, complete both the 25 km run on Saturday and the 60 km Mountain Bike race on Sunday and earn a unique ”Kgaswane Extreme Challenge” medal. That will give you serious bragging rights!!

The Mountain Race started in 1998. This year will be the 20th! It is very popular with road and trail runners and previous entrants include stars like David Gatebe and Carolyn Worstman, both Two Oceans and Comrades winners.

The original running race was 25 km, but a 10 km and 5 km fun run was added later. That should cross country athletes an ideal opportunity for a last preparation run before the SA championship the following week.

The mountain bike race was started in combination with the running event in 2012. The events share the same start and finish in the Rustenburg Kloof, but additional tracks were added in Kgaswane to make it a 60 km route. Shorter routes of 35 km and 15 km were added for the less serious mountain bikers. The 35 km and 60 km riders will have to negotiate the steep 300m climb to the top plateau in Kgaswane, a worthy challenge to all riders! The routes take the riders to remote tracks and valleys in Kgaswane which are normally closed for the public.
