Race to the Sun is a prestigious mountain biking event designed for riders who enjoy a tough challenge. The main race covers 160 km (100 miles), starting at Hartbeespoort Die Oewer and winding through scenic yet demanding terrain to the finish at Sun City. An 80 km (50-mile) route also forms part of the event, beginning at Beestekraal and ending at Sun City.
Several RCC cyclists took part in both races, setting off in the cool morning air before temperatures rose. Riders tackled the course on a range of bikes, including agile gravel bikes, traditional mountain bikes, and e-bikes.
The route featured gravel, dirt, mud pools, tar roads, and strong river crossings that added to the challenge.
Everyone enjoyed the experience, breathing in fresh air and taking in the cultural richness and scenic beauty of the routes, creating lasting memories.
The day ended with well-earned refreshments in the finishers’ zone, where riders shared stories and reflected on the day’s events.
Congratulations to all the Rustenburg Cycling Club members who completed their event.
