Spring Cycle & Fun Run – Brauhaus Africa

The annual Lighthouse Spring Cycle and Fun Run took place at Brauhaus Afrika on Saturday, 5 September 2026, drawing athletes from across the Rustenburg area.

Following a stormy night of heavy rain and wind, the morning was bitterly cold. Strong gusts battered the tents, gazebos and banners, but they did not discourage the more than 350 athletes ready to start at 07h00.

The cyclists set off at 08h30, taking on the 5 km, 8 km and 16 km routes. Puddles left by the previous evening’s rain added extra challenge to the single-track sections.

Although the cycling event was a social ride, a few competitive riders still pushed the pace. Wiehan van der Merwe was first home in the 16 km event, followed by Scott Williamse and Chris Petersen. Thank you to everyone who supported the community project, including the sponsors, spectators and cyclists from the Rustenburg Cycling Club.

Despite the cold weather, the venue made the day memorable for everyone, with hot beverages available after the chilly ride.
